Gut Health 101 – Day 1

The term “gut health” seems to be all the craze, but is it a “thing”?  What does gut health have to do with overall wellness?

 

It’s not a fad at all.  Having a healthy gut is definitely important to your overall level of wellness.

 

Welcome to Day 1 of this 5-day series!

 

 

The state of our gut health determines many health factors.  Our digestive and immune systems are part of that equation, so if we have poor gut health, we see things like bloating, constipation, diarrhea, frequent and colds/flus.

 

We have both good and bad bacteria in our gut.  While we welcome the good bacteria and encourage it to flourish, ideally we avoid or eliminate the bad bacteria which wreaks havoc on our body.  Having an abundance of bad bacteria impairs our body’s ability to absorb vitamins and nutrients.  It also interferes with hormone regulation, our immune response, our ability to eliminate toxins effectively, and of course our mental wellness.

 

Here are 5 things you can do TODAY to improve your gut health:

 

  1. Eat your veggies
  2. Ensure you consume both prebiotics and probiotics
  3. Eat plenty of fiber
  4.  Drink more water and less (or no) alcohol
  5. Cut down on the junk
